Viriginia Enacts Paid Sick Leave
Last month, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a bill that will require employers in the state to provide up to five days of paid sick leave per year for employees to care for their own illness or an ill family member, or to take leave necessitated by domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking. The paid leave requirement will begin on July 1, 2027 for employers with at least 50 employees and will be phased in for all Virginia employers by January 1, 2029. It’s important to note that this law also applies to part-time employees working in Virginia.
